Musical Theatre Productions Announces Their 2009/2010 Season

Musical Theatre Productions will present two fabulous productions: Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Gondoliers” will be an energetic and colourful operatic spectacle set in the 1950’s, while “Nine” is a Tony Award winning musical set to be released as a feature film this fall with an all-star cast.

London, ON. July 6, 2009 – Musical Theatre Productions is proud to present our 2009/2010 Season. The Gondoliers will have audiences humming along with Gilbert & Sullivan’s infectious tunes while experiencing this colourfully dressed and highly energetic spectacle set in the 1950s. Nine, the 1982 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical as well as Tony Award Winner for Best Revival in 2003, will also be released as a feature film this fall with an all-star cast. When MTP presents Nine in March of 2010, every Londoner will already be familiar with the story and music of Nine.

Musical Theatre Productions is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit registered charity, which consistently produces and advocates for high-quality community musical theatre in London and the surrounding area. Our Gilbert and Sullivan operettas have been an annual London tradition since 1955. London’s 54-year-long G&S tradition is currently the second longest in all of Canada. This past spring, our production of Nunsense, ran from March 19th to the 28th at the Palace Theatre and, with sold out performances, was an overwhelming success.

This fall’s Gillbert and Sullivan Operetta The Gondoliers will have audiences humming along with its infectious tunes as only a G&S Operetta can! This colourfully dressed and highly energetic presentation will break with the traditional setting, instead being set in the 1950s. The Gondoliers will feature a large orchestra, some of London and area’s most talented singers, eye-popping dancing, and carnival-style buskers. Filled with maidens, kings, secret loves and confused identities, this fabulous show will run this November (12 – 21) at the Palace Theatre. Opening Night (Friday, November 13th) will also feature our Annual Silent Auction featuring businesses from London and the surrounding area.

Nine, MTP’s March 2010 spring musical is pure visual MAGIC, LAUGHTER, FUN and PASSION with a brand new creative team who have a new, fresh approach to an old gem that will soon be world famous. Nine, the 1982 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical and 2003 Tony Award Winner for Best Revival will also be released as a feature film this fall with a all-star cast. Nine is definitely one of the best pieces of musical theatre to come out of the ’80s. Last year’s London Brickenden Award winners Donald D’Haene (for Best Musical Production) and Dariusz Korbiel (for Best Director) have joined forces to stage a show that will leap from the stage into the hearts of the audience.
